Safety:
I have a Level 2 First Aid and a Remote Area First Aid Certificates, St. John Ambulance, Victoria, which includes prevention of accidents and injury, management of bites and stings, treatment for shock, management of pelvic, limb and abdominal injuries and prevention of infection. A full detailed outline of any previous injuries, current medication, allergies, or any other medical history is required of participants. This enables me to ascertain very specific needs for each trek. I will also need to know what experience each person has had with bushwalking or riding to again ascertain certain ailments that comes with particularly, newcomers. An extensive first aid kit will be carried with us AT ALL TIMES, which is checked thoroughly by me at the beginning of each venture. It is important for participants to choose a trek that is SUITED TO YOUR HEALTH AND PHYSICAL FITNESS LEVEL. My treks are not difficult physically, as the emphasis is on the emotional/psychological. However, some degree of physical fitness is required, for safety and outcome reasons. I always let the park ranger or equivalent authority know of our journey, time of departure and estimated time of arrival back, ensuring people will be out looking for us if needed. This is a safety precaution only. I have 20 years experience in outdoor trekking and know the requirements for any given walk, and the horse treks are taken out by experienced trail ride businesses. Every precaution is taken to ensure the safety of all participants without it becoming an impediment to being adventurous and spontaneous. |
